  • Share of Work: 100%

As part of phase one of airport improvements for the A380 aircraft, AFRAM Corporation, as a sub-consultant to Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc., was assigned the scope to evaluate the Winchester Road Tunnel under the center runway and under taxiway Yankee, along with the box culvert for Hurricane Creek to pass under the center runway. Two loading scenarios were evaluated for the reinforced concrete box, and calculations were run on both soil/pavement depths. The City of Memphis also required a study of the Sophia Bayou Drainage area using the EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), modeling the existing storm drainage conditions for the 2 to 100-year storm events and recommending improvements, including proposed detention ponds, to alleviate known flooding problems by the most cost efficient method.
